KENNETH GASSER
Kenneth is a humble and gentle soul, filled with respect and curiosity. He is an original blend of japanese and tirolean cultures, which reflects in his personality as well as in his drawings. He paints like a musician mastering the craft of improvisation, translating rythms into lines and symbols. For him, drawing is a sort of exploration: linework, ornaments and bodily features naturally emerge from the subconscious in endless sequences, where he only truly chooses the starting point.

Hi Kenneth! Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Kenneth Gasser, I was born in 1978 in Bolzano/Italy. In my early twenties I was living in Vienna, Bristol & Dublin for some years. Then I returned to South Tyrol & lived there in Merano for about 10 years. Since 2014 I am living in Innsbruck.
Was there anything about where you come from that made you decide to follow your path as an artist?
I was very much into music until the age of 30 and still am, although there was always a hidden love & fascination for drawing. Still I don’t consider myself to be an artist though. I guess “drawer” is a more fitting expression.
How did the connection between you and art happen?
I always had a sweet spot for drawings of all kinds. In my teenage years I began to admire artists that created an own universe, an own flow within their art. I was interested in all styles of drawings from the 15th to the 19th century. But only around the age of 30 I started to draw myself because I liked the thought of being completely independent from others at my artistic decisions & choices. However drawing & music was always like two sides of a coin – sort of thing for me.
Can you tell us about the process of making your work?
I generally start with a random sketch & try to think as less as possible. Step by step things get clearer, line follows line, its’s a rather improvisational concept.
Where do these ideas come from?
I’m a lot inspired by the feeling of flow & the concept of improvisation. 90% of the ideas happen on the spot & evolve throughout the drawing.
Which artist of the past would you most like to meet?
That’s hard to say, but I guess inspiration-wise I’d even rather meet a musician, f.e. Mark Guiliana, Jojo Mayer, Charlie Parker…
How would you define beauty in 20 words or less?
In general I think that beauty always has something smooth.
What do you dislike about the art world?
That degrees are evaluated over skill.
Why do you love what you do?
Because I can observe myself developing in relative freedom of choice.
Where can we see your Artworks?
Mostly you can see it on my Homepage or on Instagram. Sometimes I do murals, sometimes markets, few times exhibitions. & there different products with my drawings on it as well as tattoos.
